Biography.
Jeannette van Schaik is often praised for her warm, generous and technically secure voice,
which combines a powerful sound with lyrical refinement and soaring top notes.
She is a singer with charm, noblesse and sensitivity, which together with her great musicality
gives her the ability to identify with a role, both vocally and on stage.

Dutch soprano Jeannette van Schaik is being seen as one of Netherlands’ great emerging vocal talents, known for her radiant luscious voice and heartfelt interpretation.
Her debut on the opera stage as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni was met with high praise. Already during her studies she made her debut at the Dutch National Opera as 1st Madrigalist in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut as part of their Young Artist program. Immediately after followed her international role debut as Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg under the baton of Karel Deseure.
Other roles have included amongst others; Contessa in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, 1e Dame/Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Dido in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Click in the Dutch premier of Hanna Kulenty’s modern opera The Mother of Black Winged Dreams, Gretel in Humperdink’s Hänsel und Gretel and Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. She made her role debut as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata at the Mélodies sur Arzon Festival in France.
Furthermore Jeannette portrayed four roles at the worldy renowned Opera Series of the NTR ZaterdagMatinee at the Royal Concertgebouw; Wheel of Fortune Woman in Frederick Delius’ A Village to Romeo and Juliet, Anna in Verdi’s Nabucco, Das Mädchen in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten and Pani Paskova/Chocholka in Janácek’s Cunning Little Vixen with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Karina Cannelakis. Recently she made a very successful role debut as Ellen Orford in a Wadopera production of Britten’s Peter Grimes.
Last season marked her role debut as Kitty Oppenheimer in John Adams’ modern opera Doctor Atomic aswell as her role debut in the titlerole of Verdi’s Aida at the State Opera of Slovakia under the baton of Oliver Dohnany.
Other highlights included the New Years concert tour with the Noord Nederlands Orkest with conductor Ed Spanjaard, Mahler’s Symphony no.2 at the Royal Concertgebouw and her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic orchestra with Sven-David Sandström’s High Mass under the baton of Ryan Bancroft.
Season 24/25 will include highlights such as her return with Noord Nederlands Orkest for Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elias with the Dutch Händel Society, concerts with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra in Thailand and the role of Mimì in Puccini’s La Bohème with Opera Utrecht.
Jeannette has an extensive concert repertoire which she performs regularly, including Strauss’ Vier letzte lieder, Poulenc’s Gloria, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony no. 2 and no.4, Dvořák‘s Requiem and Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn’s Elias, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Symphony no.9, Mozart’s Requiem and Krönungsmesse, Händel’s Messiah and the Weihnachtsoratorium and both St. Matthew and St. John’s Passion by J.S. Bach.
She has collaborated with orchestras such as the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest and Nederlands Kamerorkest, the Residentie Orkest, Tel Aviv Symphony Orchestra, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Nationaal Jeugd Orkest, Noord Nederlands Orkest and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and had the pleasure of working with conductors such as Giancarlo Andretta, Sir Mark Elder, Huba Hollóköi, Karel Deseure, Clark Rundell, Paul Nadler, Alexander Joel, Markus Stenz, Karina Cannelakis and Antony Hermus and with stage-directors such as Waut Koeken, Javier Lopéz Piñón, David Prins, Andrea Breth, Alexander Oliver, Sybrand van der Werf, Dominik Beneš and Paul Carr.
Jeannette is a recipient of the Bayreuth Stipendium Prize 2018, awarded to a promising young artist by the Dutch Wagner Society. Recently she was one of the Finalists of the inaugural By Voice Competition - London.
Her debut album Elysium was released in September 2020 at 7MNTN Records label, which she recorded with pianist Peter Nilsson. The CD contains a collection of romantic artsongs by Respighi, Korngold and Strauss and was highly acclaimed by the Dutch press.
She earned her degree in voice cum laude from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she studied with Sasja Hunnego and David Bollen. She recently graduated from the prestigious Dutch National Opera Academy, where she was being coached by Ira Siff and Peter Nilsson.
